SUMMARY:Puffs Performance Workshop (Age 14-Adult)
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Puffs: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and MagicSpotlight Acting School is excited to launch a brand-new opportunity for actors ages 14 through adult. Please note that for this workshop\, we are using the Family Friendly Two-Act Edition\, which is specifically designed to be safe for ‘Young Wizards’ and all-ages audiences.\nWe encourage students and parents to be aware that various unedited or ‘Adult’ versions exist online; those versions do not reflect the script we will be using in this program. Our production will maintain the Spotlight tradition of high-quality\, family-appropriate entertainment.\nThe Performance Workshop is designed for older teens\, alumni\, adults\, and first-time actors who want more than just rehearsal. This program combines weekly acting training with guided rehearsal for a full production of Puffs: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic—a funny and heartfelt play told from the point of view of the “Puffs\,” the loyal and often overlooked students at a certain magical school.\nThis is a Spotlight Acting School program\, not a community theater production. That means the focus is on learning\, growth\, and performance together.\nWho Can Enroll? This program is open to:\nAges 14 through adultExperienced actorsCurrent Spotlight studentsAlumniAdults who want trainingBeginners who are ready to learn and participateWhat Is the Format? We meet every Wednesday\, 7:30 PM–9:00 PM at:Spotlight Acting School / The Spotlight Playhouse214 Richmond Road\, Berea\, KY 40403\nQuestions? Contact us at:\nchad@spotlightactingschool.com859-756-0011Each evening is split into two parts:\n7:30–8:00 PM — Performance WorkshopActing training through exercises\, coaching\, character work\, ensemble building\, and scene study.8:00–9:00 PM — Puffs RehearsalRehearsal time where participants put those skills into practice on stage. This structure gives participants the chance to train first and rehearse second\, making this a true school-based experience.\nKey DatesEnrollment & Auditions: Wednesday\, April 1 at 7:30 PMFirst Regular Workshop/Rehearsal Night: Wednesday\, April 8 at 7:30 PMHow Long Does the Session Run?This session is designed to run for about 16 active weeks\, allowing time for both instruction and rehearsal.\nWe will meet weekly\, with the exception of a short summer shutdown when Spotlight is closed:\nNo sessions July 8\, July 15\, or July 22When Are the Performances?Public performances of Puffs are scheduled for:\nAugust 14\, 15\, 16August 21\, 22\, 23If enrollment is large enough\, the production may be divided into two casts (Blue Cast and Purple Cast)\, following Spotlight Acting School tradition. If not\, the show may be performed with a single cast.\nWhat Is Puffs?Puffs is a comedy by Matt Cox that tells the story of a group of students at a certain school of magic who are not the heroes everyone usually talks about. Instead\, this play follows the loyal\, funny\, and often overlooked “Puffs” who were there through all seven increasingly eventful years. It’s been described as “a tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.”\nIt’s a strong choice for a training-based ensemble because it offers:\nLots of character workComedyTeamworkStorytellingFlexible casting possibilitiesThe show can be performed with as few as 11 actors (with many roles doubled). With a larger group\, more actors can be included and roles can be spread out more widely.\nWhat Does It Cost?We are keeping this first session as affordable as possible.\nWorkshop Fee: $150Costume Fee: $30Total: $180This program is not on the traditional monthly tuition model. Instead\, it uses a single workshop fee to keep enrollment simple and accessible. The workshop fee may be divided into payments.\nLimited financial assistance is available.\nAttendance & CommitmentThis is a commitment-based program. Because workshop learning and rehearsal build on each other\, consistent attendance matters.\nParticipants should come ready to:\nLearnRehearseWork with an ensemblePerform in the final productionAttendance Policy: Earned roles may be forfeited after three absences (not including the scheduled summer break).\nWhy This New Program? The Spotlight Acting School Performance Workshop was created to serve a growing need in our community: a place for older teens and adults to receive training while working toward a play. It is especially meant for actors who want a stronger non-musical option\, former students who miss the classroom\, and adults who want to grow before stepping into the faster pace of community theater.\nWho Is Leading the Workshop? The program will be led by Mr. Chad\, who is especially excited to return to the classroom through this new series.\nReady to Join Us?Come to Enrollment & Auditions on Wednesday\, April 1 at 7:30 PM and be part of the very first Spotlight Acting School Performance Workshop.\nFor questions\, contact:\nchad@spotlightactingschool.com859-756-0011About the Executive Director\nDr. Chad Hembree has served as Executive Director of Spotlight Acting School\, The Spotlight Playhouse\, and Spotlight Performing Arts since 2013. Affectionately known as Mr. Chad\, he holds degrees and certifications in music\, theater\, religion\, and technology. The performing arts have always been his passion\, and owning and operating a theater has been a lifelong dream come true.\nIn addition to directing\, Mr. Chad is an accomplished performer with many honors and awards. He draws on his broad experience to lead students and staff with both creativity and care. Though he wears many hats\, he is especially excited to return to the classroom through this new program.
