DESCRIPTION:Gabe Strand leads this weekend workshop covering a beginner green woodworking project – the Shrink Pot!\nFrom Gabe:\nMaking a shrink pot is the perfect introduction to greenwoodworking. Basically a small vessel\, a shrink pot is a hollowed out piece of green (wet) wood. A dry base is fitted into a groove in the bottom of the tube\, and as the wet wood dries\, it shrinks around the bottom\, locking it in place. A lid can then be shaped in any number of ways: with slojd knife\, bandsaw and disc sander\, or even on the lathe. We are asking everyone that can to bring a side dish\, dessert or both. Suggestions are listed below. Side dishes already accounted for: mashed potatoes\, macaroni salad\, green beans (with ham and new potatoes)\, mac & cheese\, taco salad\, cupcakes\, a cake.\nOTHER SUGGESTED SIDE DISHES: Coleslaw\, potato salad\, veggie and dip platter\, fruit platter\, peas\, carrots\, pasta salad\, individual bags of chips\, rolls\, pies\, brownies\, banana pudding\, cookies\, etc. Note there is a Wal-mart in Berea as well as a Cracker Barrel (which offers large catering dishes).\nDRINKS: We will provide water and coffee. SUMMARY:Veteran's Suicide Awareness Memorial March
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 10th Annual Veteran Suicide Awareness March on May 25th at Whitehall Park in Madison County as we walk in memory of those we’ve lost.\nWhile marching this year we will also honor the life of Rose Joynt — a true supporter and integral part of this march from the very beginning. This year’s march is dedicated to her memory and the impact she made on so many lives.\nThis year we will be providing a limited edition memorial moto patch created in honor of Rose and the mission behind this march.\nComment below if you’ll be in attendance to reserve your limited edition memorial motto patch before they’re gone.\nThe format this year has changed a bit: We will be using the trail around Whitehall Park. We will meet at 0700 and begin at 0800. The loop is 1.6 miles and takes you through the park and past the fishing pond. About 1/3 of the loop runs through the trees and provides shade.\nThe start/end point will be by the pavilion which we have for the day\, complete with grills and 8 picnic tables. His and hers bathroom facilities are available on-site as well as a playground for the kids.\nThe idea this year is to make the event family friendly and self-paced. Run your 22 miles or come do a lap every couple of hours with the kids. Whatever you choose. 14 laps gets you to 22.4 miles. Do them all or do a few. The point isn’t so much the distance but the fellowship.\nI’ll post a bit more once we nail down particulars for support but there will be water and snacks provided as usual. We are still working out the post-event meal. More info to come on that.\nThanks to all of you for your dedication and support to the cause over the last decade.
