3. Townhomes Can Be the Middle Ground
Townhomes offer another option for renters who want more space than an apartment without necessarily renting a larger detached house.
July 2026 rental data puts average townhome rents at approximately $1,150 in Berea and $1,450 in Richmond. Current Zillow listings in Berea also include two- and three-bedroom townhomes.
Before signing a lease, ask who handles lawn care, exterior maintenance and other property responsibilities.
4. Richmond Also Has Student-Oriented Rentals
Richmond has another important rental segment because of Eastern Kentucky University.
Local rental providers advertise apartments and houses within walking distance of EKU, as well as townhouses in residential neighborhoods.
For students and parents, location can be just as important as monthly rent.

Consider rent, utilities, pet fees, deposits, parking and other recurring expenses. Also make sure you understand the lease, maintenance responsibilities and rules before signing.
